Product Life Cycle Key Terms
Over the last week we have introduced the concept of the Product Life Cycle. The class discussion focused around some key terms;

Invention would be the home computer because it was created as a new product

Windows '99 is an Operating System that became obsolite and is not manufactured or supported by windows anymore
Invention- My home would have to be an invention. It was built a while back and I would consider it an invention because something new was built(my house), and it was new to the neighbourhood which I consider to be an invention.
ReplyDeleteInnovation- The interior of my house would have to be an innovation. When we had bought it, it was very plain and there was no hardwood on the floor. People had came in and innovated my house and put all these things in in that we didn't have (hardwood, different wall colours, and furniture).
Obsolete- I don't really have anything in my home now that has become obsolete but what I think will become obsolete is my microwave. My dad always talks about how a microwave is extremely unhealthy and how he wants to get rid of it fast. In a bit, I'm sure we're not going to have a microwave anymore because of the health hazards it has towards my family.
the regular cord telephone was an invention but it becacme obselete because it was not mobile so it was innovated into the cordless telepone which was mobile and was more useful.
ReplyDeleteA laptop cooler is a recent invention at my house. It is on the bottom of a laptop and it keeps it off of the table so the fan can get rid of the hot air and it isn't trapped under the computer.
ReplyDeleteA Brita water filter is a innovation of the large water cooler in your house. It goes in your fridge and cleans the water and is much smaller than the water cooler.
a VCR is an example of an obsolete item. It is no longer of use, seeing as they do not make movies in tapes anymore and that DVD and Bluray movies are popular.

* Innovation = the cellphone
The basic concept of cellular phones began in 1947, when researchers looked at crude mobile (car) phones and realized that by using small cells (range of service area) with frequency reuse they could increase the traffic capacity of mobile phones substantially. However at that time, the technology to do so was nonexistent.
* Obsolete = Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.x
extemely old and now obsolete seeing that they now have Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 out now
Desktop Computer- Invention
ReplyDeleteMy parents have a desktop computer at home. They don't use the computer a lot so they use the desktop computer instead of a laptop. It is big and takes up a lot of space.
Laptop- Innovation
I have a laptop that I use all the time. I use it to do homework, go on Facebook and everything else. The laptop is an innovation of my parents desktop computer, because unlike them, I can take mine anywhere I go.
Wired Telephone- Obsolete
At my house I still have a telephone with a wire connected to it. No one uses that phone anymore because you have to stand in one place to use it. My other phones are wireless, which everyone in my house uses because you can travel with it.
Invention - A product i have in my house is a Blu-Ray player. An invention is something new that has recently been created.
ReplyDeleteInnovation - Xbox 360 is an innovation of the original Xbox. An innovation is an upgraded product that is innovated to be better and fix the problems of the old product.
Obsolete - An obsolete product in my house is a VCR Player. An obsolete item is something that no longer has purpose and is no longer used.

ReplyDeleteSome products or services in my home that are a good example of this is my can opener. Before we used to have a one that you used by hand but now we have a michenical one. Another thing in my house that goes by this is our tv. Before used to have a really big tube tv, then we got a flat screen tv, but now we have a projection tv. One last thing in my house that follows this is a long time ago we used to only have cord phones, but then we moved onto the cordless phone.
I think that a new invention in my home is the Cable box in the living room, because you can tell it to record the shows that you want to watch but can't because you are out, and that is a new kind of cable. It is an invention because no one has made a cable box like that before, and no one has been able to make one like that for some reason, probably due to technical difficulties or something.
ReplyDeleteAn example of innovation is my dad's Playstation 3. This is an innovation of the Playstation 2. It was made by the some company (Sony) as the PS2, and it basically does the same thing, except with greater quality of graphics and simulation. The PS3 also has a built in Blu-Ray player, which is another quality that the PS2 does not have.
An example of an obsolete product in my home is the Playstation 1. No one plays the PS1 anymore because everyone has the Playstation 2 or the Playstation 3, because the Playstation 1 does not have NEARLY as many qualities that the Playstation 2 or Playstation 3 have. The same thing goes with my Nintendo Gamecube. The Wii was an innovation of the Nintendo Gamecube, making the gamecube obsolete, because the Wii has the capability of playing gamecube games on it, therefore making the need of the Gamecube obsolete.

ReplyDeleteProducts in my house that are good examples of these terms would be play station 2 as an invention and play station 3 as an innovation because it's like an upgrade, and i would say an old phone with a chord would be an obsolete because it is alway upstairs and nobody uses it anymore. It went from those phones to wireless and cell phones.
ReplyDeleteOne product that I can think of for obsolete is VCR's everybody used to have one of those but nobody uses tham any more and they don't even make tapes anymore for VCR's anymore so they would be considered obsoletere because we have no use for them anymore. An example of an innovation would be texting on phones. When cell phones first came out you could only talk on them and now they've created texting which is probably more used than calling now. The innovation of texting made cell phones more popular and made companies more money. An invention is the blu-ray which will eventually take over dvd's and make them obsolete. The blu-ray player is just another way for companies to make more money.
ReplyDeleteAn innovation that is in my house is my iPod touch. First they came out with an iPod and then they advanced to an iPod with a touch screen.
ReplyDeleteAn invention I have in my house is the Wii this is an invetion because nobody had created a video game system that you allows you to exercise as you play, before.
Something that is obsolete in my house is a tube TV that they don't make anymore. It still works but not very well.
I have a wii which is an invention becuase it was the first version of it and no one had created anything like it for it to be an inovation. My tv in my room is an inovation because it is a modified version of the first television invented. One thing I have that is obselete is my VHS player. Although I still use it, it is no longer needed in today's society because of blue ray and DVD players.
ReplyDeleteA great invention that i have at my house would be something like the VCR. I love having that in my house because we have hundreds of vcr movies, and they are all of the lassics :).
ReplyDeleteA good example of an innovation that i have at my house would be a portable phone. Cordless phones, are alot more conveniant becasue you can move around and do other things while you are having a conversation, rather than always having to sit in the same spot with the cord.
An example of a product that is obsolete in my house would be something like my playstation 1. This is obsolete because it hasn't been used in over like 5 years becasue it has been replaced with the playstation 2 and the playstation 3. I also haven't used it because it doesn't work.
Invention: The telephone was an invention. It was first created to comunicate with others and now cell phones are an innovation of the telephone.
ReplyDeleteInnovation: The cell phone would be an innovation of the telephone. The telephone was first invented to communicate with others. Now with the cell phone, you are able to text, browse the internet and many more things. The cell phone is still being inovated.
Obsolete: The Gameboy is an oboslete product since nobody uses them anymore. Instead the product is beinginnovated into new products which are appealing to the consumers.
Invention: DVD Player, it was inventended to play DVD movies.

Obsolete: VCR, designed many years ago with cheap qualilty and was ment to play video cassettes.
I dont really have any new inventions in my house. An invention is a new idea that is created that has never been thought of or done before.
ReplyDeleteAn innovation is a product that has already been made but is made better. An innovation that i have in my house is my new cell phone. Cell phones continue to get better and better and that is why they are an inovation because they keep taking the old ones and making them better.
Lastly is obsolete which is something that is not needed or used anymore and no longer has a use because there is much better things out there to use. An example of this that I still have in my house but is never used is a gameboy. These days there is video games, ipods, etc.to play games on so the gamboys are not needed anymore which makes them obsolete.
An invention that I have in my house is a Wii. This is invention because even though it is another game system, it is a game that involves motion sensors and using motion to play the game. This was a unique idea, which made it an invention.
ReplyDeleteAn innovation that I have in my house would be a cell phone or laptop. A cellphone would be an innovation of the telophone, making it cordless and it can be used anywehre you go. A laptop is an innovation of the computer. It has been made smaller, can be battery charged and can be brought pretty much anywhere.
Something obsolete in my house would be the old Super Nintendo. It is something that is not used anymore because bigger and better game systems have been made, and people just don't have a use for it anymore. Walkmans are also something that is obsolete, or becoming obsolete. With new products such as the iPod, walkmans are not needed, nor wanted because they are bigger and take up more space. Plus, you can only have one CD in at a time, whereas the iPod can hold a lot more songs/videos, etc.
Invention - an invention in my house would probably be the VCR. The VCR would be an invention because it was made quite sometime ago, and it was brand new and a new invention to the world.
ReplyDeleteInnovation - an innovation could be a flat screen tv. We used to have a tube tv in my living room but then we switched to a flat screen.
Obsolete - a product that would be obsolete would be the game cube. The game cube was made back when I was young in elementery school and no one in my house touches or plays it anymore.
An innovation at my house would be my ps3. It is an innovation of the ps2 and the playstation.
ReplyDeleteAn example of something at my house that is obselete would be my nintendo 64. I used to use it all the time but now it just sits in my closet collecting dust.
An example of something that is an invention at my house would be our intercom feature on our telephone which allows you to call someone in the same house using the home phone. It has prevented lots of yelling all the way downstairs and is convenient.
Invetion - the tube tv with a VCR built in. It is about 12 years old and still works great. I don't think they still get made because they are really heavy and usually don't have converters.
ReplyDeleteInnovation - plasma screen tv in my house is a innovation of the tube tv because plasma's are thin, light and clearer picture. Tube tv's are heavy to lift and take up to much room.
Obsolete - My gameboy is obsolete. Was obsessed with it when I was little and couldn't go anywhere without it but as I got older better systems quickly came out and grew now interests. I couldn't even tell you where in my house it is.

an invention would be our house that was built for my parents how ever many years ago.. since we are the first and only homeowners our the house we live in
an innovation would be our HD flatscreen tv... would used to have the big box tv but we have clearly upgraded:D
an obsolete product would be the nintendo 64 currently collecting dust in a corner of my house somewhere...:/

ReplyDeleteInnovation: LCD TV which is a newer version on the TV which used to be plasma screen or a glass screen. Changing something or making something better that has already been made.
Obselete: PS1 they dont make them anymore, and they now make newer version the PS2, which is now also obselete. A product that is no longer made.
A paper clip's an invention because it was the first item created to hold papers together. It was an original idea. My ipod is an innovation because it's model was modified to be better than the previous. Apple made changes to improve the ipods design. My playstation 1 is obsolete because they stopped making games for that particular model, which removed it from the market.
ReplyDeleteAn invention that i have at home would be a normal DVD player. This was the first thing that could play a movie on a disc instead of a VHS. It was a new system entierly.
ReplyDeleteAn innovation would be my PS3. It is the third generation of the playstation and has been dramaticaly updated from the former versions of the system.
Something that is now obsolete would by my grandmas black and white tv. This is something that is no longer made due to its poor quality and the fact that the tv was just then becoming popular. The tv is something that has been innovated to the point where the first of the kind is no longer produced. But sadly, either way my grandma refuses to get rid of the thing.
A product that I would have in my house that relates to invention would be our VCR/DVD player. It is a great invention because you can still watch your old classic VHS movies and your new DVD's, which is very helpful.
ReplyDeleteAn innovation at my house would be our computer because it has the new windows 7 which was an invention made up by someone to make it easier to plan and do resarch on the computer.
An obsolete object in my house would be our old computer. We hardly ever use it because it is windows 98 and it doesn't have internet so it's not useful for school work or any researching. It also shuts off continuously during use.
Invention- My house. I just made it and it is completely different from all the other houses around.
ReplyDeleteInnovation- I have a three wheeled golf cart. I think it is an innovation because most golf carts have four wheels.
Obsolete- CD walkman. They are discontinued. Enough said.
The great invention I have at my house is LIGHT because it was a new idea that no one thought about and most people needed it to see around. An invention is when someone comes up with a new idea.
ReplyDeleteA good example of Innovation I have at my house is the Iphone4 because I use to have the Iphone 3gs but I guess its sales were dropping, so Apple innovated it to the Iphone4… which is just improving the product (adding new features and such) and advertising it.
Something I have at my house that is obsolete is my VCR because it is so out-dated, no one uses them anymore. DVD players are in! Obsolete is when something is old or out-dated, when the market for the product starts to go down.
Inventation- A inventation that is in my home would be the ipad, it is not mine it is my friends, but it is something that has been invented not a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteInnovation -Cell Phone- In my house would be the cell phone. The mobile cell was first in cars, and people thought that it was cool, but then people started to make it smaller, amd smaller so that it would be comfortable for people to carry around in their pockets.
Obsolete- Something that is obsolete in my house would be VCR, because I only use it very rarely to watch home movies, and Disney movies. I would rather use my DVD player, or my laptop to watch anything, because DVDs are smaller, and they do not take up so much space.
An example of an invention in my house is the fridge because it was an original creation. A fridge was something that was a new concept and originally created to keep food cool and fresh.

It has all the same features as a desktop computer (i.e. keyboard, screen) but it was modified to be more portable, small, and convenient for us. A laptop is a computer that has been innovated to fit our everyday lives more conveniently.
An example of something obsolete in my house is a VCR because nowadays, videos and movies are mostly sold on DVD or blu-ray, and there is rarely anything found/sold on video cassettes, meaning that VCRs aren’t really useful in todays society.
An invention would be a cell phone because it’s used to communicate with others and is a newer version of telephone since it is wireless. iPod touch 4G is an example of innovation, because iPod touch 4G is the latest version of iPod touch and it in innovated from iPod touch 3G. An example of obsolete is VCR because now most people don’t use VCRs anymore; instead they prefer using CD player or a DVD player.
ReplyDeleteAn invention is a newly created product that makes like easier. An innovation is creating a new form or function of an existing product. A product becoming obsolete means that it is no longer in general use.

An invention I have at my house would be discman. It would be considered an invention because it played CD's instead of tapes.

- An obselete product in my house is a VCR, because they are not used anymore, due to the new invention of DVD players, as well as bluray players. These new intentions are better and more benficial than VCRs, making them obselete because they are not used. Obselete means that the product is not used anymore, due to other products that have been created which are more beneficial.
Invention is a product that has been introduced not long ago for Ex. Nintendo 3DS

An invention i have at my house a remote control helicopter. An invention is basically an idea formed into an object which is made then is innovated to make it better and it could sell the same amount or more.
ReplyDeleteAn innovation i have at my house is a 3D T.V. The basic idea came from the T.V. but was innovated to a 3D t.v so it could sell more and keep making money.
Obsolete product i have at my home is a VHS tape that has no use and is rarely used because they've stopped making the tapes. Another word to describe obsolete is useless and not needed.
