1.There is no specific brand my parents buy, but when it comes to me i usually buy the well known brand. I differentiate betweeen the brand, i assume same goes for my family.
ReplyDelete2.I usually never try to save money instead i buy it new or right away, unless its something i dont want as much. I'm inpatient so when i see something that interest me i have to get it right away. My familys like me they dont try as hard to save money, i would rather play on my new product then cut out and look for coupons
1) My parents always shop at Fortinos because the products, especially the fruits and bread are fresh. We use to shop at Sobeys but then we compared pruducts and noticed Fortinos has better quality of products.
ReplyDelete2) My dad told me about the ipod touch when it first came out and it was very exspensive, I was going to spend a lot of money on the product but he told me to wait until the price decreased and if I actually want to buy the product. I did my research on the product for a while and compared prices on the Ipod touch between stores to see which stores price would decrease the lowest.
1. We purchase tide washer detergent because it was the recomended kind for the new washing machine we purchased.
ReplyDelete2. When my family bought a new car they used comparison shopping at different car dealerships to make sure they were getting the best price for the most features on the car.
1. My dad always buys electronics from Sony over any other brand, because he thinks it is the best. I think he chooses Sony over every other brand because Sony's products usually have better sound and picture quality, and for some reason he likes to buy expensive and good looking things to help satisfy his Esteem Needs
ReplyDelete2. My parents use coupons to reduce the prices on a lot of different products, but more particularly groceries. My parents also do a lot of comparison shopping before they decide to buy products, but more in the grocery category again. As for second hand shopping, they seldomly go to Value Village to see what's there, I actually got my Grade 8 Grad dress there! The locations where my parents buy their products (mostly groceries) varies depending on the stores that have sales on the products that they want, but they kind of go more to Food Basics and Lococo's than any other store, because those are the stores that usually have what they want/need on sale. So, in this case, the money strategy that is mostly used is comparison shopping, and they usually go to Food Basics or Lococo's
A specific brand-name product my family buys is Miss Vickie's Chips. We buy them over normal household chip brands like Lays and Ruffles because we think they taste better at a bit of a higher price.
ReplyDeleteMy mother uses ideas from "When to Buy" when she does her usual weekly grocery shopping for our house. She often uses coupons and buys items that are on sale. She also only buys things that we need no want to save money. She also buys brand name items because of the quality that is expected over the cheaper no name and other products.
1. -> i dont know much products cause my mom does the shopping but we get the brand nesquick cearal alot because everyone of my family members like it over the other brands ex. lucky charms, i also like how it gives the milk a chocolate taste unlike the other cearals
ReplyDelete2. -> when i shop with my grandma she compares clothing stores alot in the us so we can get the best deals and she will get coupons in the mail and use them when we go shopping for clothes most of the time
Lydia
ReplyDelete1. One brand that I personally pick over the leading brands is either Pink or Aritzia, I would choose these over Bluenotes or Boathouse because even though the prices are higher I like the service and quality of the items I buy. But also because I just personally like the styles they make over the following brands.
2.For my family we do not usually do a lot of second hand shopping, but I know one thing that we did buy many times as a second hand were cars. I don't think my family has ever bought a new car. The cars we got they were either from friends or family. But something we follow from the notes is that when my dad goes grocery shopping he always eats before so that he can stick to the grocery list and never buy anything off it.
1. My family does not really buy brand-name products regularly so there is not much that I can compare to. The one thing that my family does buy over competing product is Chapmans icecreeam. We prefer the taste and smoothness of Chapmans over any other type of icecream which is why it makes it better to us. I buy brand-name clothes like Lululemon and Hollister over clothes from places like Walmart. I find them much better becauase they are better quality, will last me longer, and are very comfortable which is why I find them better than other clothing brands/stores.
ReplyDelete2. My family uses the when-to-buy strategy when we are clothes shopping. We often buy a lot of our clothes when there is either a promotional sale or end of season sale. You can still get good clothing brands but because they are on sale they are cheaper. Just recently I bought a new winter jacket from Abercrombie because it was an end of season sale. It was not the corerect season for the jacket to sell so they were trying to clear their stock of that product by putting it on sale. By them putting the jacket on sale it allowed me to get a good quality product for a cheaper price.
1. My family has always bought Kraft products over other leading brands because of the consistancy with the taste. Wether it's cheese or peanut butter, they always taste the same. This product always has some-what low prices, and occasionaly goes on sale for even less.
ReplyDelete2. My mom is constantly cutting out coupons from flyers and advertisments. She has an envelope full of coupons she uses that she keeps in her purse for when she goes grocery shopping. My mom and I are always comparing prices between different products wether they are food, technology or anything else. When we go shopping for groceries and we need to pick up something like crackers she looks at all the different types of crackers looks at the price of them and then if there isn't a huge difference in price she looks at the nutrition facts to help her decide. Weekly my mom goes through the flyers looking for the sales, and when she finds a sale low enough she rights down the product, its price, where the sale is. and then when she has time she'll drive to that grocery store for the sale price. Most of the time she does the for water bottles for my dads lunch. My parents and I use differnet money saving methods depending on the product that is being purchased.
1. A brand name my family likes to purchase more then others would be Nike shoes. We purchase Nikes more then other brands such as Adidas and Reebok because Nike is advertised more then them and athletes wear Nike shoes over other brands.
ReplyDelete2. One of the strategies my dad used was when he bought his new truck in 2003. He bought it once the 2004 trucks were put on the lot. He purchased a 2003 Ford F-150 for a much cheaper price then what it is usually is because the seller was trying to get it off the lot.

ReplyDelete1. One brand that my family always buys is Kraft peanut butter. We always buy this brand i guess because we have always bought it. I haven’t really ever had a different type of peanut butter other than Kraft. No one has ever complained about it so i guess that would be why we continuously buy it.
2. My mother always comparison shops for groceries, she looks at the deals in flyers and if there is a good deal, she will hold off on buying the product and go to the store with the deal later. Usually my mom buys the groceries at Costco or Fortinio’s but, may go to other stores if there is a good deal. Lately i have been using comparison shopping to buy a bed set. Although, I have still not bought one yet.
1. My family doesn't really buy specific brands. My mom is all about finding the best prices at stores, so brand-name products aren't something we usually spend money on. I know when I go shopping, I don't have a specific brand that I have to have. As long as I like the way the clothing looks, the brand doesn't really matter to me. A product that I do prefer over others is Starbucks hot chocolate. I definitely prefer Starbuck's hot chocolate over Tim Horton's because I think it tastes better, and there are more options. Though I do prefer it, I don't buy it that often because it is a lot more expensive than places like Tim Hortons.
ReplyDelete2. My mom uses WagJag and we've gotten a few really good deals from it. We got 10 Zumba classes for around 20 dollars, when usually it is about 10 or 20 dollars per one class. We do a lot of comparison shopping when it comes to groceries. Depending on the amount of time we have to shop, my mom will write down all the sales at each store, and will make sure she doesn't buy it when she goes to the other stores. My dad and I did some comparison shopping when we were looking at cameras. We were looking at price, and quality, and also the different features that I wanted it to have. We ended up getting one of the newest Nikons. My parents also always buy used cars. I don't think my family has ever bought a brand-new car. They know that they can find a good, used vehicle that meets the needs of our family and the won't be spending ridiculous amounts of money on it. I know my mom sometimes second-hand shops for clothes. She likes that the prcies are usually cheaper, and there are a lot more options that are available, and she can most likely find something she likes that is still in style. My family is pretty cautious with how we spend our money. We look for sales, and prefer to save money, and make sure we are being wise with how we spend our money.
1.A specific brand-name product my family buys is sun chips over other brands such as lays or ruffles because they have really good flavours and the crunchiness is perfect, also they have new degradable bags which is good for the environment
ReplyDelete2.I used the "when to buy" strategy when i bought me winter coat after winter and all of the coats were on clearance so the prices were cut in half. I purchased this product at national sports.
A specific brand product that my family buys when they are grocery shopping is ice-tea.I have always had ice-tea since i was little so i still like the taste Better then coca-cola and pepsi.
ReplyDelete2.My family waits for a sale on say chicken or meats and when there is a sale on for them they buy in bulk and buy alot.Normaly the products are purchased at fortinos.
A specific brand-name product my family tends to purchase is TIDE laundry detergent. We buy TIDE laundry detergent because according to my mom she has used many laundry detergents over the years but TIDE is the best to get cleaner and brighter looking clothes, even though TIDE isn't reallly recommended to use.
ReplyDeleteIn my family we use many ideas to save money. Products like winter clothing is bought mostly after christmas in the States. We collect coupons to save money on houshold products like Windex, garbage bags, and Pine Sol. If one product is being sold at two stores, we comparison shop. For an example, when I was buying my iPod Touch , we bought the iPod from Future Shop rather than Sears, even though both stores had the same price, because future shop was giving one year warranty with the iPod Touch , no extra charge. We grocery shop from all different grocery stores because products are priced differently at each store. In my opinion, thats not a good idea because if you are already at a grocery store, you buy the product from that store instead of getting the same product at a different store by wasting more gas and time. For an example, if we are buyign milk we usually buy it from Shoppers. So whenever we are in the Shoppers area we'll get our milk their even though rest of the groceries may be from Fortinos. Also , we have Pizza Pizza we have an incentive plan because my family really likes Pizza Pizza , Pizza Pizza gavee us a card and we get it stamped every time we buy pizza from them, after 12 purchased pizzas we get a pizza free. These are some of the saving strategies used by my family.
1. My family likes to buy Delisio pizza because we love the taste of it, and we'd rather make pizza at home rather then going out and buying it/ ordering it.
ReplyDeleteFor shoes i like to buy Aldo and clothes i like Diesel and Parasuco clothing. Aldo shoes are my favorite shoes because they aren't very expensive and they always look nice. I can alwatys find a pair of shoes that i love at Aldo. Diesel is quite expensive but is really nice. I love their clothing and don't mind spending more on it. Parasuco isn't too expensive and i love their jeans and shirts
2. When my parents went to buy a TV they checked several stores to see who has the cheapest price. When my dad was looking for a car, he bought a used car because it is cheaper then a new car.
1. A brand that my family always buys when shopping is Coca-Cola. The reason they always buy this product all of the time is becuase they enjoy the tatse of the product and don't like the tastes of other colas.
ReplyDelete2. My family usually looks at the Fortinos flyer for a sale on a product when they go grocery shopping and buy that item in bulk.
1. I always buy Nike-Bauer hockey equipment, (skates, sticks, and helmet) because I prefer that brand the most over all the others. The sticks have great flexes and quality and I believe it is better quality over a sher-wood or reebok stick because mine never break. When I had a Reebok stick,it broke in 2 months, but my nike-bauer stick has lasted me one whole season. When I had Easton skates, the materil ripped on them in one year and they cut my heels, and ankles. My nike-bauer skates have now lasted me two years, and they are still in great shape! Their quality is great and they tend to last me very long!! This is why I prefer it much more than other hockey equipment brands.
ReplyDelete2.My family recently used the comparison shopping idea when we all got new cell phones. We originally looked at prices from our same company (Bell) and checked out the prices there. The BlackBerry plan at Bell was $35 a month and my mom had bargained for many other deals included. We put the phones and the deal on hold and then moved to telus to see what they were offering for the BalckBerry plan. Telus was about $10 more expensive and they weren't as flexible on giving us deals. So we decided tostay with Bell and get our deals, and the cheapest prices that we compared. Another idea that my family uses is Online coupons. Whenever we want to buy something that is a service such as dance lessons (zumba) or dinner (red rockets) using wagjag. Wagjag allows us to get deals for wanted services or items rather than needed items and services. This way we don't have to pay as much money to get these pleasures. Also we shop secondhand on kijiji. Using kijiji is a risk, but you can find great deals on cell phones, pets, and even cars. We save money by shopping and selling on kijiji!
1. My family always buys little caesears pizza when we're buying pizza. We prefer little caesears pizzas the best becuase there ready whenever you go there to buy them so you don't have to call ahead and order you can just go to the store and pick it up. Also they always tastes good so you can rely on them always tasting good and being the same. Also the first ones that we had werr really good so it was a good first experience hich got us hooked on them.
ReplyDelete2. When we were going to Cuba we used a lot of comparison shopping to look at the prices of different resorts. We'll also looked at the features of the resorts like what they had for entertainment, pools, and restuarants (services). We read a lot of comments and blogs on all the resorts before picking any of them. We also got some deals since we were going with a lot of people so that made the prices go down. We ended up choosing to go to Playa Pesquero.
My family generally buys what ever is on sale so the brands we buy fluctuates. I always buy my jeans from Blue Notes though. I only buy them from this store because I know that they will fit me the way I want themt to and they aren't that expensive. I find that the jeans from other stores either stretch or are to expensive for me to buy.
ReplyDeleteI tend to buy a lot of books because my friend reads a lot of books and always tells me what books are really good and I also read a lot of series so new books are always coming out. Books can be really expensive so I try to save as much money as possible. If it is a brand new book I will go to walmart first becuase their books are 30% off and will also save my parents money on gas becuase it is closer. If it is not at walmart I go to indigo becuase I have a plum card that I earn 10 points for every dollar I spend on books. This will save me money when I have enough points to get something for free. My other option would be to buy my books second hand, but I don't know where any second hand book stores are, so I have to buy them new.
1. When I go shopping, a brand I find myself always buying is Nike. When I am buying bags or shoes, or any other type of clothing, before I buy anything else, I usually want to know what they have at Nike outlets or stores first. I buy this product because everything I buy from there has always been good quality and I have never been disappointed with my purchases. So I always buy things from there. When my family goes grocery shopping, a brand name product they always buy is D'Italiano Bread. My parents always buy this and have been buying it for as long as I remember. The reason for it is because they think that the brand of bread is better than Wonder Bread or any other types. They prefer it over other breads and because they always buy it, my brother and I are more used to it and like it better than other brands. When I get older and have to buy my own groceries, I will probably buy this type of bread.
ReplyDelete2. When my parents were buying a new TV, they used the comparison shopping method. They went to different types of stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart. They looked at different prices, and different types of TV's. In the end, they bought the TV at Best Buy, got a good price and were satisfied with what they bought.
1. Helluva-Good chip dip.
ReplyDeleteHelluva-Good dip comes in the biggest container, and is cheap considering the quantity. It is very good, but it is possible that other brands could be better.
2.Snowboard Coat.
I baught my coat about a month ago, at the end of snowboarding season when everything was on sale. I baught it at West 49, 45% percent off.

1. No Name Chips - Bag is Yellow. Buy them at Fortinos for $1.49. Compare to Lays at $2.99 No Name is cheaper, taste better and my family is able to save money.
ReplyDelete2. My family uses coupons for cookies, Christie's chocolate chip. The cookies were bought at Fortinous.
1.my family always purchases tropicana orange juice instead of no-name because of reliability that its always gonna taste the same.
ReplyDelete2 Whenever we going shoppin in the states we stop at tanger outlets and we get the coupon book to save money on purchases like clothes, shoes appliances.
1)My family always buy name brand food instead of the no name stuuf because some of the no name food doesnt taste as good as name brand stuff.
ReplyDelete1. Kraft peanut butter is one brand-name product that I can think of. This product has an advantage to other products because it comes in good quantities, it's better tasting then the no name kind but it's not as much as the high leading brands(such as skippy peanut butter). So, many people buy this brand because it has good taste and price.
ReplyDelete2.We have used many of the money saving methods. When we were buying a new computer desktop, because our old one crashed we thought carefully about the price we wanted and the quality. We did alot of comparison shopping when buying the desktop. We looked at price, quality, features and service for desktops at staples, bestbuy, walmart and futureshop. We finally decided to buy one from staples for a price that wasn't too high or too low. It also had good features, qualities and service included.
Another method that we also used was when my parents bought us a trampoline. They didn't want to spend too much money but they wanted to get something that would be safe. Since my dad loves Canadian tire and they had a drawer full of Canadian tire money they used that too buy the trampoline so they didn't have too spend their money but they still got a good quantity product.
1. My family always gets Dawn dish soap because it cleans well, smells good, and is a reasonable price. Plus they donate a portion of their proceeds to help clean animals caught in oil spills, which is always good! :)
ReplyDelete2. When my dad wanted to get a truck my parents decided it would best to buy it second hand to save some money. So we went to Haldimand Motors to compare their trucks and see which one was best for us. My parents compared price with functionality to make their decision.
A brand that my family buys is Becel. They choose this product over any other because of the low amount of sodium to help lower cholesterol, and healthy eating plays a big part in my family which impacts what we buy.
ReplyDeleteA product that I have recently purchased was clothes. The money saving strategy that I used was waiting for it to go on sale. I saw a top that i wanted in the store "urban behaviour". The price was 20$ but i found out they would be having a big sale the following week. So i waited and purchased the same top for 50% off.
- A brand-name product my family always purchases is Heinz ketchup. We choose it over any other brand because it is healthy, but also tastes good at the same time, also because we have gotten used to it.
ReplyDelete- When my family was buying a new tv, we used the "comparison shopping" stragedy to find the best tv (cheap price but many features). I can't remember where we purchased the tv.
1. A product that some of my family members buy would be herbal essences shampoo. This is because we like the shampoo, and it is not that expensive to buy. I also like the smell of the shampoo, and there is a different variety of them.
ReplyDelete2. When my mom and I go to buy the products we need, we usually go to Walmart because it is close to my house. Also because you can bring them random flyers from another store and they will match the price, my mom also has coupons so the item becomes cheaper. Like one time Walmart had a sale on vitamines for children and she had a coupon off three dollars. So the vitamines were only $3.
1- A product my family always buys are lays salt and vinegar chips. We always buy Lays chips because they always seem the freshest and crunchiest and have a destinct taste.
ReplyDelete2- When going to flordia a few years ago my mom bought our plane tickets just before we left so they were cheaper because the company had to fill up the plane with more passengers.
My family always buys the PC chocolate chip cookies. For some reason they just seem to be better than the others. I guess my whole family thinks so beacuse whenever we try another type nobody likes it as much.
ReplyDeleteMy parents always comparision shop, every time they go shopping. My mom mostly compares simple stuff like milk and peanut butter, things we get all the time. We go to walmart, fortinos or costco. We look for what is the cheapest place to buy these things.
1.My family always buy olive oil instead of other oil because of health point of view. They think that health is very important and we shouldn’t compromise on things like health. This product is better because olive oil is healthy for us and its not as bad as the regular vegetable oil.
ReplyDelete2.Once my family went grocery shopping at Fortinos and we used a coupon with which you can get $10 off your total bill if you spend $100 or more.
1. When buying ice cream, my family always buys Nestle, rather than other competing brands, because my sister is allergic to nuts, and Nestle is the only brand that produces ice-cream flavours that are guaranteed to be 100% nut free. Most other brands contain traces of peanuts or are manufactured where peanuts may exist. Also, my mom likes the quality because it’s not too sugary, and not as expensive as other brands.
ReplyDelete2. A time that my family bought second hand was when we purchased our Honda Civic at a Honda dealer. It was one or two years old when we bought it and although we didn’t get to pick the colour, it cost much less money than a brand new one would’ve cost.
A brand product that my family always uses is Wonder+. That is because Wonder+ seems to be the only type of bread that my whole family likes. We also get it because it is white bread with 8 essential vitamins and minerals.
ReplyDeleteMe and my family use ideas from our “When to Buy” lesson all the time. Some examples are that we use coupons at Fortinos. We also go to more than one store to compare prises of different products. I have bought used video games before instead of a brand new one.
Name a brand or specific brand-name product you or your family always purchases over other competing products? What is it about the product that makes it so much better?
ReplyDelete-Nike is a product that my family continueously seems to buy because of their stylish selection in shoes as well as the quality of their products.
Think of a time when you or your family used the ideas in the "When to Buy" lesson. What was the product(s), what money saving strategy was used (comparisons shopping, coupons and buying second hand), where was the product purchased?
-flip flops at the end of summer, coupons when registering free for online emails to stores (they give you promotional codes for 15% off etc.) we also buy movie tickets at kelsey when we go out for dinner and a movie because the are $7.50
A brand product my family always get is sunlight dish soap. we always buy this soap because it's good for the dishes it smells good and it's also good for hands.
ReplyDeleteWhen my dad wanted a new car he got a second hand ford. he also compared prices on different websites and places that sold second hand cars.He found a good deal and he bought the car.
1. My family always gets grocery's on sundays from either no frills or food basics and the reason for this is because compared to other grocery stores like fortinos, and sobeys we find that no frills and food basics have cheaper prices so we save more money.
ReplyDelete2. I remember when me and my family went to the states in grade 8 to look for my graduation dress and i remember we looked at a couple but the strategy we used was comparing prices from different stores and buying the cheapest but also deciding if that dress was good quality since there was a huge difference of all the prices. We ended up buying it for $40 compared to the other dresses that were $100 and it turned out amazing.
